The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians believe their ancestors have lived in the Temecula area for more than 10,000 years. In Pechanga mythology, life on earth began in the Temecula Valley. They call it, "Exva Temeeku", the place of the union of Sky— father, and Earth— mother ("Tuukumit'pi Tamaayowit"). The Temecula Indians ("Temeekuyam") lived at "Temeekunga"— "the place of the sun".

Today, modern Temecula is a vibrant, growing city with a population just over 105,000.

Shopping and Dining - Temecula offers shopping and dining for virtually any taste. Old Town Temecula offers a western feel. It's a place to stroll the sidewalks, go antique shopping, and dine in local area restaurants. The open air experience does a person good. Old town is expanding with Temecula City Hall and several new professional and apartment buildings. You can feel both the old world charm and the underlying vibrant energy of new creativity.

In the center of town is the Temecula Promenade Mall one of the premiere indoor malls in southern California with over 100 shops and restaurants. The new southern end of the Mall offers a new open-air shopping experience inspired by European markets.

Temecula Valley Wineries are a wonderful draw to the community with their award winning wines, great restaurants and beautiful gift shops. Various wine tours are also available at many of Temecula's award-winning vineyards.

Farmer's Market - local area farmers offer fresh produce each Saturday year round at the Temecula Farmers Market. Visitors can experience live entertainment, fresh food, arts and crafts, and more.

Parks and Recreation - Temecula offers a wide assortment of recreation. For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are multiple parks to visit, lots of Temecula golf courses are available to the avid golfer, a skate park for the kids, not to mention all the biking and boating opportunities to be had.  For those who are looking for something to do indoors; bowling, theaters, and indoor rock climbing walls, car racing, and more are available.

Temecula residents have access to emergency hospital care with its close proximity to the Inland Valley Regional Medical Center.

The Loma Linda University healthcare system is also building a new acute care hospital along the 215 freeway on Antelope road just north of Clinton Keith Rd in Murrieta. It is scheduled to open in March 2011.

San Diego and Ontario International Airports are the common portals for air travel. Local French Valley Airport serves private plane and jet travel.
